Ham lives with his wife, Mary, on Maine's Pemaquid Peninsula. Ham and Mary raised their four sons in Woodstock, Connecticut where they lived for forty years before retiring year-round to the coast of Maine.
Ham made his living as a woodcarver, furniture maker, and oil painter. He is, perhaps, America’s best-known contemporary painter of rowing. rowinginoil.com.
Ham served his Connecticut community as its 1st Selectman for two terms, was a candidate for the Connecticut State Senate, was several times chairman of a large church, and served on boards of numerous local and regional organizations.
He knows well the subject matter of the novel, Talk Radio, as he hosted just such a show on radio station WINY in Putnam, Connecticut. He has also been a regular op-ed columnist for the Observer-Patriot newspaper in that same town.
Talk Radio, Ham's third novel, is one of his connected Maine novels. Thornton Wilder's Sister set in a Maine assisted living home is as yet unpublished. Adam, the story of a free-spirited island caretaker and handyman, is in the works. Tiezzi's Board, the story of Joe Carroll, a young woodcarver given a fantastic creative break in the form of a gigantic mahogany board, is published by Black Rose Writing and was released in August, 2022.
A short film, Quinn, written and financed by the Martins and their friends, won First Prize in the Providence Film Festival and was the Audience Prize winner in the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Please take a look. (16 minutes)
Ham has written two full length motion picture screenplays.
These days Ham spends his days writing and learning about his Maine neighbors, their values, their work, and their ways. Ham loves people.
